College Football Week 2
Hard to believe Week 2 is already upon us!
From fresh faces to 5th year seniors to emotional tributes, a lot happened in week 1. With that being said, here are my 3 #HowGreatIsBall takeaways:
-
1) In Los Angeles, we have gone from two top 10-draft picks at quarterback: Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen, to two freshman starters: JT Daniels and Dorian Thompson Robinson. As more freshman play QB it begs the question as to ‘Why?’ There are many elements to that, but simply said, what youth and high school QBs are taught at a young age and exposed to with camps such as Elite 11 and the word ‘google,’ allow for rapid growth at the position. Look no further than the National title a year ago with Jake Fromm and Tua Tagovailoa. Keep an eye on freshman signal callers this season across the country.
-
2) Pre-season rankings mean zero. While the college football hype machine continues all off-season, the reality is that each program starts anew, as we saw Miami, Penn State, Michigan State, Michigan and Texas all struggle in a win or an upset loss. Why? Well, NCAA rules have restricted tackle football in training camp, and with zero pre-season games, no one truly knows who they are. The real question is: do those teams bounce back or are they who we watched on tape?

3) Justin Herbert is a star. Check out my Instagram @YogiRoth under ‘Week 2’ film study in my InstaStories as I dive into how special Justin truly is running the ‘Pistol’ offense.
Finally, listen to Dr. Michael Gervais: anxiety and depression in college athletics from Yogi Roth – LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS in Podcasts, as we welcome back Dr. Michael Gervais, high performance psychologist who has worked with dozens of Olympic athletes, professional athletes and others who live on the razors edge in high stakes environments. He also works with the Seattle Seahawks, among others in sports and business helping guide culture, philosophy and mindset.
Also, be sure to tune in to the Pac-12 Networks this Tuesday night as we bring you another episode of Inside Pac-12 Football. Also follow me this weekend as I’ll be in Seattle calling the UW vs North Dakota game on the Pac-12 Networks with Ted Robinson and Jill Savage.
